Tea LeaVes - ComPresSed Tea
Compressed tea (紧压茶, jinnyā chá) or Tea bricks (砖茶, zhūan chá) are blocks of whole or finely ground tea leaves that have been packed in molds and pressed into block form. It was commonly produced and used in the Ming Dynasty. Compressed tea is very common in the west and south-west China and is mainly produced in Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. It should be stored in contact with air at room temperature to allow continuous fermentation. Pu'er is a favorite tea used for compressed tea and is common to be served in the dim sum restaurant. It also can be stored for years and decades. Most of the tea fans like to collect and store Compressed Tea because aged compressed tea has a tamed flavor and can be sold for a higher price. Compressed tea leaves are also used in the lei cha (擂茶) eaten by the Hakka people The examples of compressed tea are Yunnan puer round tea, Guangxi Liu Bao Cha, Mi Brick Tea, Tuo Tea and Brick Tea.
